Regent's Crescent Penthouse

In his design of the 4,219 sqft Regent’s Crescent penthouse, Alex Kravetz has drawn on the Art Deco era and aesthetic, whilst also being heavily inspired by the worlds of art and music. Kravetz and his team have masterfully created distinct zones within the expansive living space, which boasts a double height ceiling and dual aspect views. A grand piano by Scheiner & Shone draws the eye from the mirror-clad entrance hall and instantly sets the focal point of the apartment, cleverly dividing the seating and dining areas. The fluidity and movement of music can also be seen in some of the lighting choices; a bespoke chandelier featuring 394 individually hung nano coated glass pendants, representing musical notations, adding a sense of calm.

Bespoke polished ebony macassar joinery with integrated lighting features throughout the living space and evokes the glamour of the Art Deco period. On the upper floor, design details reminiscent of the 1920s can be seen in the spacious principal bedroom, where a statement headboard with chevron pattern and brass wall lights takes centre stage.

The residence also boasts ‘his’ and ‘her’ private spaces; a sumptuous snug room with private marbled bathroom adjoins the principal bedroom, whilst the more masculine study sits on the lower floor and features a cocooning armchair by Hamilton Conte and views onto the trees of Park Crescent Gardens. Outside spaces include a large kitchen terrace with an herb garden and lush planting.

Designing with the discerning art collector in mind, Kravetz worked alongside renowned curator Lawrence Van Hagen to bring together a collection of artworks for the residence entitled ‘Forms of Abstraction’, featuring a discerning mix of internationally established and emerging artists.

Alex Kravetz, comments; ‘Art plays a huge role in the conceptualisation of this residence. Setting the scene is an illuminated sculptural installation by Cerith Wyn Evans featured in the stairwell, whilst at the upper landing, almost framing the Evans piece, is a canvas by Mark Flood entitled ‘Lost Blue’. This piece inspired the colour palette for the apartment as a whole and we have focused on shades of blue and green throughout, picking up on the private gardens at the back of the building as well as the private, leafy crescent at the front.

Each piece of art selected serves a purpose; many of the statement, 3D pieces add to the acoustics of the space and are made of light reflecting materials, such as the Dorian Gaudin polished aluminium sculpture in the dining area.’

Throughout the apartment, Kravetz has focused on incorporating rich, sumptuous materials, textures and upholstery. Alongside bespoke furniture, other brands featured include Sans Souci, Laskasas, Ferreira de Sa, Sahco, Zimmer + Rohde, Rubelli, Penta, Hamilton Conte and Dedar.
