Alex Kravetz Design were responsible for Sheraton Grand Krakow’s soft-renovation of its 232 guestrooms and suites. With the overall design direction modern, yet timeless and functional, the design brief was to upgrade the property for the next 8-10 years in order to remain at the top of Kraków’s competitive set.
Sheraton Grand Krakow is located a stones throw away from The Royal Wawel Castle, on the banks of the Wisła River, with beautiful views and within walking distance of the Old Town.
Kraków, a city with a rich history steeped in legend and myth, is also vibrant, with an exciting social fabric. The interior design therefore respects the classic history of the building, whilst adding a more homely and contemporary feel to the rooms. This was reflected by using simple and honest forms with luxurious finishes, displayed throughout the patterns, geometries and FF&E styling. A fresh colour palette with a spectrum of hues were used in the guestrooms and two colour schemes were implemented during the rollout, in order to provide a variation within the tonalities of the fabrics and finishes.
Making connection to Kraków’s regional craft, the beautiful lace patterns which originated in the city provided a rich design palette for design interpretation. This was reflected in both the artwork and carpet designs for the rooms. The artwork pieces combine this inspiration with added contemporary elements like digital patterns and some handwritten poetry. The carpet design draws on the theme of lace organic patterns but tuned to the scale of the space.
AKD designed a custom headboard for the property which created a feature for the room, incorporating both architectural and decorative forms of lighting.
The visual DNA of the Sheraton brand was implemented in accordance with the latest standards and following the refurbishment the hotel was re-branded Sheraton Grand Kraków. The first Sheraton in Poland and one of the first in the EMEA region to join the brand’s new premier tier. This was true testament to what was achieved on the project.
