The Westin Palace Hotel

The Westin Palace Hotel in Milan is one of the city’s landmark five-star hotels. The hotel is situated overlooking the impressive Piazza della Repubblica and the Grand Deluxe contemporary guestrooms boast a city view of the up-and-coming Porta Nuova district. The rooms have a luxurious and residential atmosphere, where guests can retreat from the buzz of Milano city life.

The interior design brief for the rooms was to create interiors which would reflect the classy yet avant-garde soul of the city but would also connect with the property’s rich history and location.

The colour scheme was comprised of rich wood and metal finishes to create warmth, balanced against more cool and contemporary colours. Grey scale tones were paired with modern zigzag patterns to create a more timeless and contemporary feel to the rooms. The yellow and grey colour schemes draw on the historical colour of Milan with colourful accents in the artwork a nod to Milan’s rich fashion history. The artwork provides abstract movement and natural forms, inspired by the silk scarves of the Italian fashion house Pucci, telling the story of the local.

The interior design for the rooms also needed to pay reference to the brand guidelines of Westin properties, reflecting the principles of biophilic design. Therefore, we used organic patterns and shapes which were reflected in both the carpet design and fabric selections.

The bathrooms are clad in Bardiglio Light and Carrara marble sourced from Italy and have an oversized mirror to make them feel even larger.

Overall the upscale of the design balances the classical proportions and enhances the guest experience of the palatial areas of the hotel.
